General Percussion Section Background General Percussion Section Background This survey is designed to get a better idea of what each nominated student has access to as part of their percussion playing background. Unlike wind and string players, schools bear the most responsibility when providing large instruments. We know each school is different, and this is only intended to assist in the percussion part assignment process. This information will help the host and clinicians deliver a better experience for the percussionists who are selected. For example, if a piece for the festival calls for an advanced timpani solo, a student who does not have access to timpani will not be put in such a high pressure situation. Rather, a student without extensive timpani experience can be given a timpani part that is more accessible.
